Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Lytvyn highly appreciates the Launch of a Constructive Dialogue between the Presidents of Ukraine and Russia concerning Gas Issues

"I highly appreciate the fact that exchange of acute declarations has been transformed into a normal constructive dialogue in the form of conversations between the state leaders," declared V. Lytvyn in the interview to Interfax Ukraine news agency.

"If gas transmission consortium is discussed, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is ready to adopt respective resolutions on amendments to the laws", the Head of the Parliament stressed. The Chairman of the Parliament is of the opinion that "creation of a consortium and concession of the gas transmission system can preserve our strategic advantage and significance for Europe; it will also help establish cooperation between Ukraine, Russia and the European Union."

"I am convinced that it will help avoid tension in the triangle "Ukraine-Russia-the EU" in autumn and winter," V. Lytvyn stated.

V. Lytvyn also stressed that "decisions worked out in 2002 and in the next years failed to be implemented."

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada attaches great importance to keeping legislative resolutions on energy transparent, as it is a matter of interest for all the parties.

V. Lytvyn believes that gas transmission system which is Ukraine´s treasure shall work and become one of the advantages. "If it does not work, our national interest will be wasted. I am convinced that gas transmission system should operate at full capacity. Speaking about concession, it will never mean that Ukraine neglected its interests, since it is not being sold or privatized", Volodymyr Lytvyn declared.
